The First week of our research consisted mostly of formal lectures given by Dr. Sattler.
Lecture topics included:
Air Pollution: An Introduction
Introduction to Air Pollution Modeling
Gaussian Dispersion Modeling
Methods of determining dispersion parameters
Determining Plume Rise
Air Pollution Meteorology- Winds
Air Pollution Meteorology- Stability
Relaxing Assumptions
We also read various chapter from The Practicle Guide to Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling by D. Bruce Turner and Richard H. Schulze
This blog contains the research done in the REU program at the University of Texas Arlington. This research included the evaluation of 4 radionuclide's and the overall effects of each for a terrorist attack involving either an explosion or fire.

Introduction to Research for Undergraduates (REU) Program - Continued
The people
I was involved in the air dispersion modeling: planning for radiological terrorism project. This project included students: Kia Williams, Ryan Landrith, and Diamond Yocom. We worked under the supervision of Dr. Melanie Sattler and graduate student Arpita Gandhi. Diamond and Kia are from Texas A&M Kingsville both majoring in environmental engineering and Ryan is from the University of Texas Arlington majoring in biomedical engineering. Dr. Sattler is a civil engineer with an emphasis in air quality. Arpita Gandhi is a civil engineer graduate student who's master project involved air dispersion modeling. I met many of other students from various campuses involved in other projects as well as graduate students and engineering faculty at UTA.

Introduction to Research for Undergraduates (REU) Program
The REU program began this summer on July 2, 2010 with the welcome orientation. We were introduced to all the students and teachers involved in the various projects.
These projects included:
Expansive Soil Heave Damage and
Earthquake Research
Air Dispersion Modeling: Planning for
Airborne Terrorism Releases
Effect of Extreme Wind Loads on
Structures
Hacker Detection: Evaluation and
Improvement
